Beauty Gurus: I Need Your Help!

OK beauty bloggers, I am calling on your collective knowledge: I am in need of a recommendation for a good eye primer! I have a terrible time with my eye makeup smearing. My routine usually consists of an eyeshadow base with a heavy lining of black eyeliner on the top lid – I usually use Almay 16 Hour Eyeliner, but I’ve tried all kinds of pencils, cream eyeliners applied with a brush, liquid, and so on – and it always, always, always smears on the crease of my eyelid no matter what I do.

This will melt off in 5 minutes...

I know there must be a better way of doing things, since I’ll see women at parties at midnight whose makeup looks pristine – meanwhile, I’ll look smeared and disheveled by 1 PM because of my eye makeup melting off. I’ve tried the SEPHORA COLLECTION Eye Primer Pot, but it doesn’t help; I’ve tried it alone, and also tried it with powder on top like Kandee Johnson recommended; no dice. I’m seeing mixed reviews on this so I don’t know if the primer just isn’t that effective, or if I’m doing something wrong.

So tell me: How do you keep your makeup from melting off? Which eye primers do you use? Do you have any tricks I haven’t tried?

  1. Oh I have the same issue so I am of no help to you… in fact, I don’t even wear very much make-up. My make-up consists of eye liner, shadow and mascara… in which most smears off by 1pm also. I’m looking forward to peeking back here to see what kind of responses you’ve received. I could use the help too.

  2. Sorry, Beeb, this is one area I am no help in! Well, I probably wouldn’t be a lot of help in several areas, but definitely this one. Looking forward to seeing what the beauty gurus have to say.

  3. Hopefully we’ll all get some good advice, ladies! Janel, almost every time I try putting mascara on my lower lashes, I regret it – LOL.

  4. The very best eye primer in my opinion is urban decay! It works amazingly well. I can keep my eyeshadow fresh until I take it off. LOVE it!

  5. Unfortunately, I am of no help here. I probably wear eye makeup twice a year. I do have to use a good primer for my face though and like one that Pur Minerals offers. I haven’t tried it on my eyes though.

  6. same problem here. and i have a ton of extra eyelid skin (yeah, genetics! lucky me!) and my eyes look better with eyeshadow for about 3 minutes then they look all wonky because it slides off and melts away. i’ve tried abotu 45 primers

  7. I think Pur Minerals has a primer, but I haven’t tried it yet. I know I don’t like the creamy eyeshadows for this reason. I like to stick to matte, but this does still happen to me, too! :/

  8. As a beauty guru my favorite primer is the Urban Decay primer potion or too faced primer. I will also occasionally use a MAC pant pot or Lime Crime primer.

  9. I am no guru either, I usually wear just eyeliner and mascara and sometimes lip gloss. Once in a while I put on eye shadow (the mineral kind), but it doesn’t last as long as I want.

  10. After the two recommendations for Urban Decay in the comments, I looked it up and read some reviews on how it works with keeping eyeliner in place – it seems to be very highly rated so I’m going to purchase a tube in my next Amazon order. I’ll let you guys know how it works out! Thanks so much for the recommendations, ladies!
